Mike Brown

Post by jblee »

Esher Rugby have announced this morning that Mike Brown has been appointed Director of Rugby at Loughborough University and will therefore be stepping back from role with them although he will be continuing to be involved with Esher on a consultancy basis until the end of January 2027 at least. It seems current Esher Head Coach Liam Slatem will continue in his role with the existing coaching team.

It is sad news that Mike will be leaving us, however, it was probably inevitable. Some of us had expected Harlequins to pounce this summer!

The good news is that the new coaching team of Liam Slaten, Dylan Hadzi, Dan Richmond and Owen Waters are delivering and the extra strength in depth achieved by Mike's summer recruitment was clearly on show at Canterbury last week. The players are bound to be a little disappointed but let's see how they react to the news in their performance against our bogey team, Barnes on Saturday.

Must be a blow to lose him so soon.

Is he joining the BUCS setup or the team in N2W?

Hopefully the summer recruitments stick around and they can keep up that early momentum in form. They're certainly starting this season in a better place than last season.

He is apparently joining to oversee all rugby - BUCS, N2W and PWR.

7 tries and a first win over Barnes in 6.5 years - a good response from the players! Also remarkable for our replacement tight-head, Will McKenna scoring 4 tries in 1 match! Anybody else know of a prop scoring 4 times in one match?
