Some observations on today's game between Chinnor and Ealing :

Ealing looked very good with ball in hand, and will obviously be the favourites to win the league, although Worcester might have something to say about that !

The unusual 5pm kick-off clearly had a huge impact on the attendance, with only 1,411 watching today whereas the last two seasons drew over 2,000 for the visit of Ealing.

Ealing were awarded three consecutive penalties at the start of the game, but nearly every scrum thereafter was a penalty to Chinnor. Clearly Ealing have a lot to work on at scrums, but Chinnor were not able to execute frequently enough to take advantage. Ealing were lucky that the referee did not run out of patience with the scrum offences.

Ealing were persistently pushing the offside boundaries during the game, but only started to get pinged in the last 10 minutes. Again, they could easily have seen a yellow card with a less lenient referee.

The new points system doesn't seem to be widely understand. The BBC website has failed to give a try bonus point to Ealing as has the RFU results website, which also shows Chinnor having a losing bonus point !

I think it’s correct now.

Although they now have Ealing on 5 points, the BBC still have Chinnor with one point. The RFU website still has Ealing on 4 points and Chinnor on one point ...........

The real surprise is that the BBC realised the Championship season started yesterday.

Of course if it had been called the Celebrity Championship it would been all over the British Broadcasting Celebrities channels!
