Nice one RM2, I'll give it 3 more tries.

I totally agree with the mindset aspect. If you think you can win then you will give every ounce of effort to make it happen, Cambriani's charge down being a prime example. Mentally, our players know they can do it because that's what they have done. To be in the position of being able to win means you have at least matched the oppostion to that point and so you know in your own mind that you are good enough. From the Mond match, it looks like Cambriani was denied a try when he picked up the loose ball and dotted down. It was unclear from where I was positioned and I trusted the officials at the time. Having watched it back on Blaze, it was a clear try and so no wonder he was furious. That spurred him on to create the wonder try later on and he knew that he deserved his run for Okafor's try and then his own try creaed by Shaw's bump and off-load. Roth have got momentum whereas Richmond have zero momentum from very tight games and are getting no reward for huge amounts of work. It must be soul destroying. Roth have that winning feeling and momentum and know they deserve to be where they are. Its fanatic for us fans because we have a heady mix of jeopardy and hope in equal measure, with just a pinch of expectation as garnish.

The scoreline doesn’t really reflect the game at all. As a Pirates supporter I thought we’d be in for an arm wrestle but still prove too good for Chinnor. I was quite wrong.

Chinnor were very good value. Their defence for 90% of the game was rock solid and Pirates struggled to find a way through.

Chinnor No.4 was excellent in the lineout, repeatedly pinching Pirates’ ball. Pirates’ poor discipline also meant they were under a lot of pressure for much of the first half.

I struggled to understand the referee’s interpretation of the scrum, and I think a few Chinnor fans would agree with me. It felt like he took far too long getting the scrum set.

In the end, potentially the better fitness of the Pirates side combined with a bit of luck meant the difference in the end.

Fair play to Chinnor, they will do well this season. Very worried about our away trip there.
Was the Number 4 a certain Harry Gilson-Fox?
If it was he was Roth’s line out caller last season and certainly a worry about what he remembers when we play them over Christmas!

No, the number 4 is Jamie Campbell

Gilson-Fox has not played in the Champ yet for Chinnor

Did you watch the game?

I feel I owe the club an apology. That is the first game I tipped us to lose, but I think we controlled the game and to be fair could have had a few more tries but we kicked (in my humble opinion) too much away at times, but it kept them on the back foot I guess.
It wasn’t that I expected us to lose, it’s a case of the unknown, but we were well worth the win.
Anyway I figured that being at the top of the prediction league (well I was last week) I’d give everyone a chance to catch up.😜

Oh and thank you for Russell Bennett. What a player he is. controlled the game.

I watched some of your game yesterday but unfortunately you made that mistake at the scrum right at the end and that unfortunately was the difference & the top teams are relentless.

I think with the top teams you need a bit of luck to end up on the right side of the Scoreline and yes we did ride our luck at the end with both Cov & Bedford who are great teams, but in both games I think we deserved the win.
Worcester were a different class and I would imagine so are Ealing by the way they put nearly 60 on Blackheath who are also a fine team.

Don’t get too despondent DKF you had a fantastic win last week and on your day Donny can beat anyone, and I do mean anyone.

All the best my friend.
I know the Knights are operating on a reduced budget this season but Russ Bennett would have been one of the first priorities in terms of players that I would have kept. A fly-half that dictates the game is invaluable at this level.

I’m really not sure about Donny so far this season - our back division given space is lethal but I still feel like a lot of our tries come from individual bits of brilliance and not necessarily through well constructed team play. I’d also say this current pack is far from the best that I’ve seen in my time watching the Knights. I could be being harsh but my overriding feeling at the moment is frustration. We should have won on Saturday and we threw the Blackheath game away with appalling indiscipline. Our next 3 games after the break are Ealing, Worcester and Bedford - gulp!. Two wins from 8 would be a dreadful start but it’s now very possible sadly. Mind you, Roth looked like they were staring down the barrel of losing their first 3 matches when the fixtures came out and now look at them!!. Momentum is a weird and wonderful thing, and especially in this league, it can change incredibly quickly.

I am looking forward to seeing our first choice starting 15 get a run of games together at some point, we’re still missing a fair few would be starters.
